This means your own conclusions, even if they are found to be engraved in stone. Yes, we have learnings, opinions and impressions of everything we think we know and understand. Such understandings might well direct us to consider the things taught from us at our mamma’s lap and daddy’s knee. Remember that all was your past. Now throw in all their warmest thoughts and prayers. Where did any of that get you?

Sure they wanted the best for you and felt they were giving you the best advice they have. But then you must know that their best came down from a long ladder of so-called enduring ‘good opinions’. When we take them to heart, we move back in time from their own parent’s “best”, to their parents — and then their families’ parents before them…through a stack of uncounted generations.

How many of us think our parents have better facts-of-matters than we ourselves do? Seriously. To begin, those older than we are tend more often to pivot on feelings and instinct rather than the stark facts before them. Do we not have at hand a more advanced system of education than do they? They had fewer and less accurate textbooks, thinner dictionaries, and less opulent encyclopedias. Even in their own time their speedily issued quips and quotes seemed altogether quite old fashioned.
