A Second’s Pause—What Is LIFE, Actually?/!

Just now I saw the tiniest knat; and my first instinct

Was to smash it into a micro-pancake.

Flitting about in my bathroom, as if sort of para-gliding.

Right there between the steel spout of the faucet and the

Porcelain sink’s lower opening. Instead I hesitated, taking the

Time to consider the heavy responsibiity of the situation.

A pause got me to thinking about the eons of eras of biology that

Brought each of our species to this point in time/place.

So understood, I am not the only living-thing

Occupying the bathroom in this moment.

That silently flapping, teenie ‘animal’ zipping hither, thither and yon

Is comfortably in it’s own relatively large ‘world’-of-space/time…as well.

Being the bigger creature I could of course end

This thing’s annoying flutter by simply bringing my palms

Together — fast! But we all know this is not just another

Poisonous nuisance-bug I need to be well protected from.

Isn’t it rather surprising we are not all naturally aware that
